Vulnerability in business.

HOW CAN WE BE VULNERABLE IN BUSINESS?

We can show vulnerability by sharing our story, opening ourselves up to other people’s ideas, and allowing people to positively influence us to grow in areas we initially wouldn’t have on our own. It’s also shown by a willingness to admit we don’t have all the answers.

WHY IS VULNERABILITY IMPORTANT?

Understanding

We all live in our own metaphorical castles that exist to protect ourselves from anything that can hurt us. However, if we let people in, it allows us to have a deeper understanding of others, and it creates an opportunity for them to empathise with us.

Fosters Creativity

Perfection is overrated and, in most cases, unachievable. A person who is afraid to make mistakes is not only holding themselves back; but also those who depend on them. It's usually through experimentation and failure where creativity is found. Accepting that things may not go as planned gives us a greater chance of finding innovative solutions.

Trust

Those who dare to be imperfect, admit their wrongs and are honest when they don't know the answer are more likely to build meaningful and trusting connections.

Growth

When we think we're the most intelligent person in any situation, we've eliminated our chance to improve. Every person we meet in this world has something to teach us. Everyone, we will ever meet knows something we don't.

DOES VULNERABILITY MEAN INSECURITY?

No. When we are insecure, we are more worried about whether we say or do the wrong thing to please others instead of just being ourselves.

Other people can sense our insecurity, making them feel uncomfortable, which will delay the journey to building strong relationships with clients.

However, this does not mean we should hide our faults; it means we should accept them and know we are always on a path of improvement.
